Communications Specialist for the Equal Opportunity Communication

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the contract position of Communication Specialist in the Equal Opportunity Commission for a period of three (3) years.

Duties and Functions
The incumbent will be required to:

  • Design, organize and implement a creative and effective communications strategy for the Equal Opportunity Commission;
  • Develop and execute related communications plans, in the context of the wider National Communications Strategy and under the guidance of the Government Information Services;
  • Develop and maintain programmes to effectively utilize various media for public education and dissemination of information on the role, functions and services of the Equal Opportunity Commission;
  • Participate in Planning, co-ordinating and organizing public consultations, conferences, seminars, workshops and similar events;
  • Liaise with the media and the Ministry of Information to arrange for media coverage of events;
  • Draft or review speeches and feature address to be delivered by the members of the Equal Opportunity Commission at public forums.
  • Prepare periodic administrative and progress reports;
  • Liaise with other Ministries and Government Department on communication matters;
  • Accompany and assist the members of the Equal Opportunity commission on speaking engagements;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Remuneration
The remuneration package applicable to the position of Communication Specialist for the Equal Opportunity Commission will be determined by the Chief Personnel Officer.

Qualification and Experience

Applicants must possess:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications or Public Relations and at least three (3) years experience in the field of Communications, Public Relations or Marketing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong leadership, planning and organizing skills;
  • Sound knowledge and skills in Desktop Publishing and Microsoft Office Suite Applications;

Competencies
Prospective candidate should be able to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external clientele.
