MEDIA RELATIONS ASSISTANT
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for contract employment in the Office of the Parliament as a Media Relations Assistant
POSITION SUMMARY
The successful candidates will provide administrative services and research support to Members of Parliament and staff. Work includes the preparation of replies to requests for advice and information from Members of Parliament, Parliamentary Staff, other Parliaments, regional and international organizations, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, as well as Ministries and Departments of Government. The incumbent will also undertake research that will serve to support the work of Committees.
REPORTS TO:
Communications Coordinator
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Arranges media releases, media conferences and briefings.
- Coordinates the dissemination of information approved for release to the media, on a timely basis.
- Assists in production, coordination and distribution of media materials.
- Facilitates media access to the information from Parliament.
- Prepares committee advertisements and Parliament information segments for press publication.
QUALIFICATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- A Bachelor’s degree preferably in journalism or communications.
- Two (2) to Five (5) years experience in media relations and/or journalism.
- Experience in developing and marketing news stories to regional and national media.
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Advanced computer skills
- Excellent organizational, communication and public relations skills.
- Ability to work with tight deadlines.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Terms and conditions of employment commensurate with qualifications and experience will be negotiated with the Chief Personnel Officer.
