EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The South-West Regional Health Authority is inviting applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the following positions:

HANDYMAN

The Handyman performs a variety of semi-skilled work in maintaining and repairing health facilities, and reports to the General Maintenance Services Supervisor. The Handyman has a functional relationship and takes directions from the County Medical Officer or Health or District Health Visitor.

The Handyman is responsible for cleaning air conditioning filters and vents, as well as cleaning and changing water filters according to maintenance schedule. He/she also repairs and replaces plumbing items, clears obstructions from water and sewer lines and operates a variety of mechanical tools and equipment required for masonry, carpentry, plumbing and general maintenance.

REQUIREMENTS AND TRAINING:

• Three (3) CXC or GCE Ordinary Level subjects or School Leaving Certificate with three (3) years' experience as a handyman.
• Elementary knowledge of gardening.
• Certificate of Good Character.
• Ability to perform elementary repair work in masonry, plumbing, carpentry etc.
• Ability to operate a variety of mechanical tools and equipment such as power saws, power sanders, drills, sewer augers, lawn cutters and various hand tools required for carpentry, plumbing, and maintenance.
• Apply good judgment and practical knowledge to resolve unusual or irregular problems in the area of work assigned.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work in elevated locations up to 6 meters.
