The South-West Regional Health Authority is inviting applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the following positions:

SENIOR MAINTENANCE CRAFTSMAN

The Senior Maintenance Craftsman provides craft skills (joinery, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, fitting, turning, etc.) applicable to maintenance of healthcare facilities. Additionally, he/she provides technical guidance and supervision to subordinates. The health institutions operate on a 24 hour basis, and accordingly this person may be required to work on shift or "on call" arrangements. The job may involve considerable travelling and fieldwork throughout the region.

The incumbent is required to perform all emergency and preventative maintenance and repair duties necessary to maintain assigned facilities. He/she inspects buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify maintenance, repair, and replacement needs; reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards. In addition, the Senior Maintenance Craftsman assists the General Maintenance Services Supervisor to coordinate work schedules for maintenance staff.

REQUIREMENTS AND TRAINING:

  • A Craftsman Certificate in a particular skill with at least five (5) years' practical experience in the skill.
  • Successful completion of an electrical craftsman course from an accredited institution.
  • Proven ability to supervise subordinates.
  • Possession of a valid driver's licence.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, guidelines, codes and standards pertaining to facilities management of health institutions.
  • Knowledge of local and international safety codes pertaining to health institutions.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database and project applications.
  • Ability to supervise subordinate staff.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and instructions.
  • Ability to work in elevated locations.
